Assessment of two low-cost geological materials as adsorbents for arsenic

چکیده

Two easily accessible local materials, kaolin, and sediments from the reservoir of a dam, were evaluated to compare their efficiencies as adsorbents for As. The kaolin sample was composed mainly by kaolinite quartz, while contained illite, montmorrillonite quartz. Also, iron, calcium magnesium minerals present minor components. adsorption experiments performed using batch equilibrium techniques. samples chemically treated piranha solution, trimesic acid, study effects on capacity. treatment seems be good alternative improve capacity kaolin. Electrochemical Characterization of Low-Cost Lithium-Iron Orthosilicate Samples as Cathode Materials of Lithium-Ion Battery

Lithium-iron-orthosilicate is one of the most promising cathode materials for Li-ion batteries due to its safety, environmental brightness and potentially low cost. In order to produce a low cost cathode material, Li2FeSiO4/C samples are synthesized via sol-gel (SG; one sample) and solid state (SS; two samples with different carbon content), starting from Fe (III) in the raw materials (lo...

Removal of dyes using low cost adsorbents

The low cost adsorbents namely Rice Husk Carbon (RHC), Wheat Straw Carbon (WSC) and Saw Dust Carbon (SDC) have been tested for the effectiveness in decolourisation of wastewater containing a mixture of dyes. Three dyes namely crystal violet, direct orange and magenta have been used for imparting colour in the representative samples of wastewater. Effect of various parameters such as agitation t...

Arsenic removal from water using low-cost adsorbents – a comparative study

Inorganic arsenic removal from water using low-cost adsorbents is presented in this paper. Selective removal of As(III) and As(V) from water was performed with natural materials (zeolite, bentonite, sepiolite, pyrolusite and limonite) and industrial by-products (waste filter sand as a water treatment residual and blast furnace slag from steel production); all inexpensive and locally available. ...

Assessing Innovative Arsenic Adsorbents

According to a 1999 study by the National Academy of Sciences, arsenic in drinking water can cause several types of cancer, harm the central and peripheral nervous systems, cause serious skin problems, cause birth defects and reproductive problems. The USEPA published a Final Arsenic Rule in the Federal Register that established a revised Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for Arsenic of 10μg/L (U...
